Library Post, 11/9/2010

Did I make a post yesterday? No? How remiss of me!

I wish to state that my "to read" pile is getting a little out of hand. There may be a winnowing.

Three books this week:

John Sandford - Storm Prey

You all know that I love Sandford, right? This is the most recent Lucas Davenport. That guy is getting a little long in the tooth. I expect many statements of how he's getting "too old for this shit." No, not really. The good news is, once I get to this book, it shouldn't take too long to read. And, of course, I'll enjoy it.

Christopher Chabris and Daniel Simons - The Invisible Gorilla

Pop psychology? Perhaps. It's a book about how our intuition deceives us (that's the subtitle, actually - :And Other Ways our Intuitions Deceive Us). The title, I presume, refers to an experiment showing that people told to concentrate on a video of a ball being tossed back and forth frequently overlook a man in a gorilla suit who walks through the scene.

Connie Willis - All Clear

I adore Connie Willis. This is the second half of a book she started in Blackout. Both are a continuation of Willis' books on time travel, and they are fantastic. I will probably have to wait until my wife is done with the book - that's the bad news. The good news is that my "too read" pile is getting a little out of hand, so I have things to read while I wait. Additional bad news, this is the sort of book where it will likely be the only one I read that week. But it will be worth it!
