Poetry Month Day 6, Maxine Kumin, "Chores"

Today's Writer's Almanac reading spoke to me, so I am sharing it with you.

I really like the idea of taking tools to Heaven, just in case there's work to do. Honestly, if there IS a Heaven, and it is eternal, I think we'll WANT work to do. Humans are not designed for constant leisure.

I don't like most poetry, but this one was really good.

Yeah, I was really struck by the narrative quality of the poem, which merged nicely with the philosophical elements. The scene is both simple and evocative, and those last two lines pack a surprisingly intense punch.

Unrelated - thanks for commenting, it's nice to know that someone is reading.
I read all the entries, I just don't always comment. :)

I think that's why I liked this poem; I really like narrative, I like stories, I like things that have a thread to them.
I love this article. It is so right on point. It is great approach to human systems integration.
